About Colin Cable Artist

In 1998 I was elected President of Talbot Brook Land management Association Inc., in which I served in that position for a period of 10 years, working in partnership with Dept of Water, Avon Catchment Council, Swan River Trust, sourcing funding from Lottery West and Enviro fund in Canberra.

What began as a passion for the Environment, gave me a great insight into the need for further protection of the remaining critically endangered flora and Fauna in the Wheatbelt of our State, with a primary role of engaging and talking to the farming community on the importance of protecting their properties from salt and waterlogged areas.

During these years I managed Large Re-Vegetation projects on farming properties and along tributaries that were connected indirectly to the Swan, Avon River systems, mainly to correct, address, waterlogging and the stabilisation of sediments along the banks of creek lines.
Large areas were planted with native seedling stems which were native to the area, utilizing local volunteers, and Schools and Bush Ranger cadets from the Perth region. Was also involved in education into the different aspects of the preparation and Methodology of these Saline and Water affected areas.
After my role in management and coordination with Talbot Brook Land management Inc, I decided to take a break and have a period of rest to just enjoy being a member of the group. I have always had a passion for art in different medias, from Water Paints, to oils, Acrylics, Pastel, and Coloured pencil. My main interest has been the painting of Parrots, and birds, that are native to Australia.

I was asked to join the Wheatbelt Natural Resource Organisation in Northam as a Director. This was formally called the Avon Catchment Council. I sat on this Board for a period of 6 years giving me a completely different insight of initiatives and Strategies into the different projects managed by the Organisation in the Wheatbelt of WA. During this period, I was asked to sit on a Main Roads Advisory Group, concerning Roadside protection of vegetation, and achieving the best outcomes for its removal, for new road construction. This was a rewarding experience as I was engaging with farmers, Police, main Roads, Ambulance and Shires. I also became a member of the Avon Nature Catchment Advisory Committee acting in an advisory role.

After engaging with these two Organisations a new Association was formed called Conserving Avon Riverine Environs in which I served as Vice President for a period of 3 years, then as President for 3 years. During this period our Organisation acted as an advocate for Volunteer Groups in the Wheatbelt region to give a better impetus for funding applications.

My passion for the Environment and its Fauna and Flora has given me in my retirement years, a passion to paint our precious native parrots and birds through loss of habitat, as a reference for younger generations to experience. The future I feel will threaten our native fauna due to the expansion of industry, climate change putting pressure on the depletion of native vegetation.
